We are looking for a Management Accountant to join our growing team in Birmingham.

PJA are one of the leading independent transport, engineering and placemaking specialists in the UK, with offices in Birmingham, Bristol, Cambridge, London, Manchester and Reading and more recently Perth and Melbourne, Australia. We provide expert advice on a wide range of projects across the UK and beyond from new settlements and nationally strategic infrastructure projects, through to urban regeneration schemes and a wide range of education, employment and sports and leisure developments.

Due to continued growth within the business, PJA is looking to recruit a qualified Management Accountant (ACCA, ACA, CIMA or equivalent) to be based in our Longbridge, Birmingham head office. This is a full-time role, and we operate a hybrid working model so there may be the option for some remote working. We are looking for a good team player, who has a proactive and collaborative approach to work, but who is also able to work on their own initiative with minimal supervision.

 

Our ideal candidate

Our ideal candidate will be experienced in the preparation of quarterly management accounts and annual statutory accounts. Reporting to the Finance Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day line management of the Finance team.

Some of the key responsibilities will include:

  • Preparation of quarterly management accounts and annual statutory accounts for the Group (2 UK trading, 1 Australian trading and 2 Holding companies)
  • Generating intercompany recharge, management charge and cross-charge invoices
  • Performing intercompany and control account reconciliations
  • Preparation of various cost centre reports for management
  • Daily bank reconciliations and cashflow management
  • Management of supplier and staff payments
  • Ensuring HMRC payments are made for PAYE, VAT and Corporation Tax as well as quarterly VAT Returns submission
  • Quarterly VAT Return Submissions
  • Preparation of BAS/IAS Reports (Australia)
  • Annual budget preparation and cashflow forecasting
  • Administration of Enterprise Management Incentive Scheme
  • Additional ad hoc duties as necessary

Skills and Experience

  • Qualified Accountant – ACCA, ACA, CIMA or equivalent
  • Experience of supervising or managing a small team
  • Minimum of 5 years practical experience in the preparation of management accounts and year end procedures.
  • Excellent understanding of management accounting principles and systems, with the ability to identify and investigate accounting and operational issues.
  • Experience in departmental accounting and intercompany transactions.
  • Experience in preparing Australian BAS and IAS Reports desirable but not essential; training available.
  • Computer literate, with sound knowledge of Microsoft packages, particularly Excel
  • Experience of using Xero accounting software (or equivalent) is essential.
  • Experience in using the project-based software Rapport is desirable but not essential.
  • Experience in administrating the Enterprise Management Incentive Scheme (EMI) desirable, but not essential.
