PJA – bringing together transport, engineering and placemaking.

After 20 years of working in large consultancies, Phil Jones founded Phil Jones Associates in 2003 with a desire to simply get the job done. Frustrated by the bureaucracy that is all too evident in some of the large practices, Phil offered his clients a ‘What You See Is What You Get’ approach to the provision of transport planning advice: expert advice provided by the actual expert, on time and to budget, with a commercial focus and proven results.

The transport planning business grew from strength to strength over the next 10 years, with the addition of four regional offices, the introduction of placemaking skills, and the appointment of two additional Board Directors; Nigel Millington and Mark Nettleton.

The next step change in the business came in 2016, with the formation of PJA Engineering, an integrated land development engineering service. The addition of civil engineering skills was the next logical step for Phil Jones Associates, allowing us for the first time to service our clients throughout the project lifecycle, from inception, through planning and onto delivery.

After 18-months of strong growth in each part of the business, it became clear that the logical progression was to bring all aspects of the business together under one banner – PJA – offering an integrated approach to transport, placemaking and engineering.

Fast forward to now and PJA now has over 100 people working across eight offices in the UK and Australia. We have a genuine passion for what we do and we work hard to ensure that the ethos of good design and quality advice runs through all aspects of our business.
