PJA is looking to recruit a Flood Risk & Drainage Engineer to support the continuing success of our Reading office.
We are looking to recruit an experienced Flood Risk & Drainage Engineer, working with a friendly team of specialist consultants in our Reading water resources team, to deliver Flood Risk Assessments and Drainage Strategies for private and public sector clients, within one of the UK’s leading independent consultancies.
For the right individual, this is an excellent opportunity to help develop a strategically important sector of the business. PJA is currently engaged in a number of projects ranging from small scale development up to larger scale projects ranging between 150 to 5000 residential units and supporting infrastructure.
Our ideal candidate
The ideal candidate will have a background in delivering SuDS and Drainage strategies, as well as the production and co-ordination of foul and surface water drainage design, river restoration/design, and contributing to environmental impact assessments and other civil engineering works within the water/environment industry.
They should have a strong academic background in a relevant science discipline (e.g. a degree in Civil Engineering, or a relevant higher education qualification) and/or extensive experience in a similar position.
They will also have:
- Comprehensive knowledge and experience in preparing and delivering Flood Risk Assessments and Drainage strategies to support LP Reps, outline and detailed planning applications and discharging reserved matters.
- A strong drainage capability (storm and foul) with a good understanding of drainage design with knowledge and experience of Sewers for Adoption 7th Edition, Sewerage Sector Guidance, Code of Adoption Agreement and The SuDS Manual (CIRIA C753).
- A strong understanding of national planning policy and relevant legislation with regard to flood risk and drainage (such as NPPF, Flood and Water Management Act and Water Framework Directive) in addition to best practice in association with drainage, flood risk and the water environment.
- An understanding of hydraulic modelling techniques, Microdrainage, FEH, AutoCAD and GIS.
- An understanding of the Flood Risk Activity Permitting and Land Drainage Consent Process would be advantageous but not essential.
- Experience of meeting attendance and liaising with clients, architects, contractors, local authorities and other statutory bodies.
- Good report writing skills.
- Chartered status or working towards Chartered status (ICE/CIWEM) would be advantageous.
