Our wonderful team are our greatest asset. Not only experts in transport, engineering and placemaking but also committed to delivering better places for people through high-level-service client experiences.

We’re very proud to continue to celebrate the faces behind the fast-growing international consultancy that we are today in our monthly feature ‘PJA People’.

Next up in our series is Graduate Consultant, Todd Lithgow, based in our Manchester office:

Tell us what you do at PJA

I am a Graduate Transport Planner based out of the Manchester office. My day to day tasks generally involve GIS analysis, writing reports and going out on site visits. All of the projects I have been working on so far are for public sector clients, primarily local authorities in the North and Midlands, but also others such as the NHS.

What’s your career path so far?

Before joining PJA, I studied Town and Regional Planning at Liverpool University. On a few occasions during this time, I worked as a freelancer, creating 3D models and visualisations of small-scale neighbourhood interventions such as pocket parks and modal filters. I also spent a month as an intern in WSP’s planning consultancy team in Manchester.

What do you enjoy when you’re not working?

When I’m not working I like heading out to the Peaks or Lakes to escape from the hustle and bustle of Manchester. I’m also a big foodie – anything that is spicy to the point of absurdity is fair game.

Are you a dog or cat person?

I’m definitely a cat person. Don’t get me wrong, I like dogs, but they’re too much work!

What are you currently reading or listening to?

I’m currently reading a book called ‘The Boulevard Book’ . It’s a great book about an often overlooked street type, with some really nice hand-drawn sketches of streets from around the world, I highly recommend it to anybody into urban design and cities in general.

Claim to fame?

In terms of a claim to fame, there’s a few. One of the more interesting ones (and that I only found out myself recently) is that I can trace my family lineage back to a man called Jean-Antoine Chaptal. He was a key figure in French revolutionary history, being Napoleon’s Interior Minister for several years and a prominent Industrialist and Chemist. Unfortunately his son squandered his amassed wealth, so I’m writing this from my rented Manchester flat instead of the Château de Chanteloup and its 4,600 hectare estate – quite the shame!
