PJA was appointed by the University of Worcester to provide all transport consultancy services in relation to the submission of a planning application for the proposed Worcester Arena.

The Arena, which received planning consent and is now constructed and operational, was designed primarily as a multi-use sports arena to be used by the University for sports teaching, but also as a venue to host national and international sporting fixtures for basketball and other indoor sports.

PJA was tasked with the preparation of the Transport Assessment and therefore had to developed a detailed understanding of how the site was likely to operate.  Given the very specific nature of the proposed use, assessments had to be carried out on a first-principles basis in order to generate estimates of travel demand, mode share and parking requirements.

Having established the likely demands for movement to and from the site, PJA was then required to identify appropriate access requirements for all users of the site, consider the impact of increased vehicle trips in the local area and identify suitable a mitigation package for all modes.

PJA has been retained by the University of Worcester to provide similar services on other aspects of developing the University estate, including all transport services related to a proposed new campus to the west of the City.
