PJA was jointly commissioned with LDA Design, and JLL, to prepare the Gloucester Car Parking Strategy.

Gloucester City Council owns a high proportion of the city centre car parks in Gloucester, several of which are nearing end of life.

PJA built a bespoke model for the analysis of car parking demand and changes in supply. This model was used to create clear and concise graphical and textual outputs.

The Car Parking Strategy gives a forecast of future parking demand for a variety of scenarios and sets out options for parking supply in the future.

PJA undertook a detailed of the impacts of key regeneration schemes, such as the refurbishment of Kings Walk, and the forthcoming King’s Quarter regeneration.

Effective liaison with stakeholders was central to the successful delivery of the Car Parking Strategy. PJA coordinated with Gloucestershire County Council; Great Western Railway; and Peel Group, the owner of Gloucester Quays.

The project allowed students of the University of Gloucestershire to gain significant experience of transport planning in local government.

PJA mentored a group of third-year Geography students, offering support and supervision of data collection and analysis.

The Car Parking Strategy is due to be adopted by Gloucester City Council and will set the framework for city centre car parking to 2032.
