PJA was appointed by Lidl to provide all transport planning inputs to their food store development at Coventry Road, Yardley, Birmingham.
In consultation with Birmingham City Council, PJA produced a Transport Assessment for the scheme utilising a gravity model of existing discount food stores to understand the catchment area for the new store.
Given the location of the proposed store on the A45 – a key arterial route into Birmingham, the impact of the proposals on the operation of the local highway network was closely assessed and a highways mitigation scheme agreed.
The scheme also included a detailed access design, input into the design of the car park and servicing strategies, and the development of a thorough Travel Plan.
The proposal was granted planning consent in 2015 and is now fully built and occupied.
PJA has subsequently been retained by Lidl as their transport planning and engineering consultants for a number of proposed stores throughout the Midlands.
