Our Chairman Phil Jones will speak at the virtual Shrewsbury Big Town Plan Festival on Tuesday, January 26.
The Festival is a series of debates and discussions around the Masterplan Vision – which explores how Shrewsbury town centre can improve and develop over the next 20 years, and builds on the priorities established in the 2018 Big Town Plan.
Phil will be part of the Better Movement and Healthy Streets session from 11am to 12 noon, which will also feature Shropshire Council and Shropshire Cycle Hub.
Phil, a government-appointed High Street Task Force Expert, said: “As Shrewsbury grows and develops, better movement will be crucial in making it an accessible and attractive place to live, work and visit. We will also discuss how well-designed streets that encourage more walking and cycling will bring benefits for people, businesses and the environment.”
Phil’s involvement with Shrewsbury stretches back over 20 years – he helped design the High Street public realm improvements in the 1990s that gave much-needed space back to pedestrians. More recently he has worked with LDA on the movement strategy for the Big Town Plan, the redesign of Castle Street and the redevelopment of the Riverside shopping centre to form a new mixed-use quarter.
Since last Autumn, Phil and colleagues have been reviewing the Covid-19 emergency traffic arrangements in the town centre and identifying potential short and medium-term measures to make conditions better for walking, cycling, public transport and for local residents.
