Next up in our series is Ground Engineering and Contaminated Land Associate Charlotte Smith, based in our Bristol office:
Tell us what you do at PJA
I’m an Associate in the Ground Engineering and Contaminated Land team with responsibility for managing the team, work-winning, managing projects and delivering our technical input. I have a strong leaning towards contaminated land, however my broad understanding of a range of geo-environmental disciplines means I’m well placed for the developer-led projects we often work on.
What’s your career path so far?
I’ve always loved the outdoors and I graduated with a degree in Environmental Earth Science in 2006, joining Atkins in 2007. I worked there for thirteen years on a range of different projects and in a few locations before settling in Bristol. I joined PJA in November 2020 and haven’t looked back since.
What do you enjoy when you’re not working?
I love hiking and I try to get out into the hills most weekends. I’ve been enjoying climbing and cold-water swimming over the winter, and I’m a big fan of various types of motor racing so I have some exciting events in the calendar for this spring and summer.
Are you a dog or cat person?
A cat person without a doubt – I have a camera roll full of photos and videos that I took of the cats in my neighbourhood during lockdown walks!
What are you currently reading or listening to?
I have just finished The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt, and I’m now reading Don’t Sweat The Small Stuff by Richard Carlson. I like to alternate fiction and non-fiction.
Claim to fame?
I was once interviewed by Jon Sopel for BBC News. Sadly I ended up on the cutting room floor…
Charlotte Smith, Associate
Charlotte has 15 years’ experience in the assessment, management, and remediation of land contamination, across a diverse range of public and private sector schemes including highway, rail, residential and commercial infrastructure projects. Charlotte’s main interest is in the reclamation and remediation of brownfield sites and she has proven abilities in engaging key stakeholders and regulators and navigating the planning process to deliver land ready for development.
