A major new housing development in Newport gets the green light to be built.

The development, including over 300 homes and 70 extra care apartments, on land to the west of Station Road in Newport has now been approved by Telford and Wrekin Council’s planning committee.

The development, accessed from both Station Road and the A518, will see a mix of houses and bungalows of between two and five bedrooms built on the outskirts of the town.

The extra care apartments will all be marketed as affordable rented homes managed by Wrekin Housing Group.

Public open space and a multi-use games area (MUGA) also form part of the scheme, as well as the retention of the Hutchison Way, which was set to be diverted under previous plans for the site.

PJA worked closely with Telford and Wrekin Borough Council to agree assessment parameters, access arrangements and agree a package of improvements to the local highway network.

A sustainable mitigation package was agreed including contributions to improving local bus services, and provision of a new puffin crossing and footway on Station Road.

PJA produced the Transport Assessment and Travel Plan for the scheme, along with highway design works for both of the vehicular access points.
