Tell us what you do at PJA

I am a Senior Consultant within the Placemaking team here at PJA, based in the Birmingham office, working closely with Annabel Keegan and Catherine Phillips on Placemaking and Landscape projects.

A typical day involves lots of Adobe InDesign, Illustrator and AutoCAD. I have enjoyed working on public realm schemes, active travel designs, a town centre development and plenty of ad-hoc landscape support for Catherine where I have had a chance to learn more about SuDS, hard and soft landscaping, and general design principles.

What’s your career path so far?

I have always had an appreciation for good quality design within the built environment and found an interest in what makes spaces and places unique at a young age.

I studied architecture at university and really enjoyed the urban design focused modules. After graduating, I joined JMP Consultants as a graduate within their ‘movement and place’ team doing placemaking and masterplanning work. After around four years, I moved to Mott MacDonald to join their transport planning team for a further four years.

The last eight years of work has fortunately given me a versatile mix of both skills and projects. This has included placemaking and masterplanning work covering: HS2, town center redevelopments, active travel design, public realm design and multi-disciplinary masterplanning projects.

Joining at the start of this year, I am looking forward to progressing my placemaking knowledge with the PJA team.

What do you enjoy when you’re not working?

I enjoy playing acoustic and electric guitar, completing house and garden renovations or travelling  and I am a foodie – either cooking some Mexican food or trying a new tasting menu.

Are you a dog or cat person?

Undoubtedly a dog person. We have a Yorkshire Terrier, Max, who has given us plenty of great memories growing up!

What are you currently reading or listening to?

I’ve just finished reading the ‘The Gulag Archipelago’ by Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn and currently enjoying listening to country music!

Claim to fame?

I went to school with Jack Grealish!
