Our wonderful team are our greatest asset. Not only experts in transport, engineering and placemaking but also committed to delivering better places for people through high-level-service client experiences.

We’re very proud to continue to celebrate the faces behind the fast-growing international consultancy that we are today in our monthly feature ‘PJA People’.

Next up in our series is Consultant, Emily Daffern, based in our Reading office:

Tell us what you do at PJA

I’m a Consultant in the Transport Planning team, based in our Reading office. I mainly work in development planning, providing transport advice to clients and preparing transport related documents to support planning applications. I’ve recently started using VISSIM traffic simulation software to assess the traffic impact of a large mixed-use development scheme on the surrounding road network.

What’s your career path so far?

After graduating from Newcastle University in 2020 with a degree in BA Geography, I joined PJA’s Graduate Development Programme. I am now working towards becoming a Chartered Transport Planner through CIHT in the future.

What do you enjoy when you’re not working?

I really enjoy anything music related, I’m in a choir in my local area and I enjoy going to concerts (yes, I got Eras Tour tickets!) and the theatre. I’m also currently trying to teach myself guitar!

Are you a dog or cat person?

Both! I grew up with two cats, Scout and Mo, and a Labrador called Bertie.

What are you currently reading or listening to?

I’m currently reading Circe by Madeline Miller; I love anything Greek mythology related!

Claim to fame?

I performed with G4 once if anyone remembers them from X Factor days!
