Our wonderful team are our greatest asset. Not only experts in transport, engineering and placemaking but also committed to delivering better places for people through high-level-service client experiences.

We’re very proud to continue to celebrate the faces behind the fast-growing international consultancy that we are today in our monthly feature ‘PJA People’.

Next up in our series is Consultant, Matt Wykes, based in our Birmingham office:

Tell us what you do at PJA

I’m a Transport Planner in the Birmingham office, working mainly in development planning where I provide advice and reports to clients to support the planning process. I’ve got plenty of experience in junction modelling software, and also provide technical support on various public sector projects, usually using my experience in GIS tools.

What’s your career path so far?

I started at PJA in 2019 as a Graduate following my degree in Geography from the University of Reading, which feels like barely five minutes ago, but I’m fast approaching five years here!

What do you enjoy when you’re not working?

I’ve been lucky enough to follow a range of live sports, having been to F1 races in Europe, catching the NFL in London, as well as following the football, rugby and cricket on many other occasions. I’m excellent at supporting teams who are good at losing, so I apologise in advance if you had high hopes for England at the Euros this summer!

Are you a dog or cat person?

When I was a kid I was terrified of dogs, but since then my parents got a massive Labrador. He’s now my best mate and I love dogs!

What are you currently reading or listening to?

I’m a massive fan of music, especially indie rock, 80s bands and Britpop, so I’m generally listening to those genres on repeat. My birthday weekend next month consists of Catfish & the Bottlemen at Cardiff Castle followed by Noel Gallagher and Johnny Marr at Warwick Castle two days later – I asked Windsor Castle if I could round it off by hosting my birthday BBQ there but I’ve not heard back.

Claim to fame?

I’ve got some pretty interesting relatives, but a proud moment for me was when me and my mates dressed up as The Inbetweeners for our end of Sixth Form pub crawl (including a cardboard yellow Fiat Cinquecento), and James Buckley who plays Jay (who I was dressed as) commended our efforts on social media.
