Next up in our series is Graduate Consultant, David Gannon, based in our Reading office:
Tell us what you do at PJA
I am a Graduate Consultant at the Reading office. Most of my day to day work typically involves assisting with transport statements and travel plans, using software such as AutoCAD and ArcGIS, and providing general support and assistance on various projects to the Reading Transport Planning Team.
What’s your career path so far?
As a recent graduate I haven’t had much of a career path thus far! However, for three years I studied Human Geography at London South Bank University. My final year dissertation focused on the impacts of the Ultra Low Emission Zone in London, which provided me with an interest in transport. This led me to study a Master’s course in Transport Planning and Management at the University of Westminster, and then led to me joining PJA!
What do you enjoy when you’re not working?
I’m a keen runner, and have run over 500 times at parkrun, which is a free weekly 5km event that takes place every Saturday at 9am. I also enjoy taking part in running races, and recently ran the Wokingham Half Marathon in February. A goal of mine is to one day take part in the London Marathon. I’ve entered the ballot for next year’s race so fingers crossed I get in!
I’m also a big sporting nut, mainly watching sports such as Football and Formula One but do also have a general interest in watching other sports too. I’m a massive Chelsea FC fan and try to go to matches at Stamford Bridge when I can. I do also enjoy attending sporting events such as Wimbledon and the BMW PGA Championship at the Wentworth Golf Club in Surrey every year.
Are you a dog or cat person?
Definitely a cat person! I have two tabby cats at home called Skittles and Cookie, and they are both absolutely hilarious at times and are great company!
What are you currently reading or listening to?
I’m not much of a reader but I do enjoy listening to music, particularly on my commute to and from work. I wouldn’t say I have a favourite band or singer, but mostly listen to bands such as The Killers, Blur, Coldplay and Muse. I do also enjoy listening to podcasts in the evening – mainly sport related!
Claim to fame?
I once played football at Wembley Stadium.
David Gannon, Graduate Consultant
David joined the PJA Graduate Development Programme in December 2024 and is based in our Reading office. He graduated from the University of Westminster, studying an MSc in Transport Planning and Management. During his Masters, David learnt about topics such as active travel, behaviour change and transport appraisals, and focused his dissertation on using GIS to assess the sufficiency of cycling infrastructure in Outer London and the extent of spatial disparities in London’s cycling infrastructure.
