Next up in our series is Graduate Consultant, John Tsui, based in our London office:
Tell us what you do at PJA
I’m based in London and work with the active travel and placemaking teams. My work revolves around designing and delivering projects which allow folk the freedom to walk, wheel and cycle in comfortable and people centred spaces. I’ve had the opportunity to work with both private and public sector clients, although as of late my work has primarily been with local authorities, particularly parish and town councils!
What’s your career path so far?
I started my career with an internship at PJA with the Cambridge office as I was finishing my Masters degree. After pursuing further studies in Taiwan, I re-joined as a graduate consultant based in London.
What do you enjoy when you’re not working?
I like to be active so when I’m not in the office talking about it I’m usually out there doing a lot of walking and cycling enjoying nature! I’m also keen on martial arts and regularly practice Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Judo.
Are you a dog or cat person?
Cats for sure. I was born in the year of the Tiger (from the Chinese Zodiac)!
What are you currently reading or listening to?
The last book I read was Perdido Street Station by China Miéville – it’s the second novel of his that I’ve read and I love how his stories are as much about the places they’re set in as the people that his plots revolve around.
Claim to fame?
My stepmother is a two-time Olympian! She represented Hong Kong as its youngest swimmer at the 2000 games (aged 13!) specialising in 200M butterfly.
John Tsui, Graduate Consultant
John joined PJA as a Graduate Consultant in 2023 after an 8 week internship the year before with the Cambridge office when he was completing his Masters in Development Studies at the University of Cambridge. He is based in London and works between the London and Cambridge offices. His interests are in transport, specifically active travel.
John’s work involves assisting in delivering high-quality, sustainable low car developments. This also extends to planning applications and masterplans for larger scale public transport projects, including contributing to business cases, public realm improvements and active travel planning.
